Prevention

When families are faced with such problems as unemployment, poverty, isolation, inadequate housing, alcohol or drug abuse, the stress and hardship of everyday life can often become overpowering. Some of these families are unable to cope and that is when abuse and neglect can occur.

The Children's Aid Foundation of Simcoe County supports programs that assist families in breaking the cycle of abuse
by building self-esteem, introducing positive role models and providing much needed breaks.

We do this by providing funding for:

Early Intervention School-based Program
History has shown that education is the key way to break to the cycle of family violence. The Children's Aid Foundation is in a unique position to provide children the opportunity to learn how to cope with life's frustrations in a non-violent way and that's key to promoting a healthy learning atmosphere. Perhaps most importantly, with your help, we can stop the violence. This is done by introducing the concepts of self-esteem, empathy, feelings recognition, respect of self and others and personal responsibility for choices and actions, to more than 800 children in Kindergarten to Grade three county-wide.

Summer Camp Program
Children need the time to play, the space to let their imaginations soar and a place to discover nature and to satisfy their own innate curiosity. Summer camp provides just that - a place where children have positive role models who introduce them to the freedom of a stress-free environment.

Day Treatment Program
This special classroom has been set up in conjunction with the Simcoe County District School Board and provides an alternative classroom for children and youth who require treatment for socio-emotional problems and who cannot be maintained in special needs classrooms within the school system.
