Emotional Abuse
This is when the actions of a parent deprive a child of a nurturing environment. These acts include constant yelling, demeaning remarks, rejecting, ignoring or isolating a child or terrorizing a child. Emotional abuse is often difficult to identify and prove.
Behavioral Indicators that a child may be a victim of emotional abuse:
severe depression
extreme withdrawal or aggressiveness
overly compliant, too well mannered, too neat or too clean
extreme attention seeking
displays extreme inhibition to play
Physical Indicators that a child may be a victim of emotional abuse:
bed wetting that is non-medical in origin
frequent psychosomatic complaints, headaches, nausea, abdominal pains
child fails to thrive
