Neglect
In most cases, neglect is not intentional. It usually occurs because the caregiver does not know how to provide proper care. Neglect is when a caregiver fails to provide essential needs such as adequate food, sleep, safety, supervision, clothing or medical treatment.
Behavioral Indicators that a child may be a victim of neglect:
pale, listless, unkempt
frequent absence from school
inappropriate clothing for weather; dirty clothing
engaged in delinquent acts, alcohol/drug use
frequently forgets a lunch
Physical Indicators that a child may be a victim of neglect:
poor hygiene
unattended physical problems or medical needs; i.e. dental work, glasses
