What is the Children's Aid Society?

Children's Aid Societies are non-profit agencies working in local communities to provide help and support to children and their families.

The CAS becomes involved with families when there is a concern about the well-being of a child. Families are referred to the CAS by doctors, teachers, other professionals, neighbors or someone else living in their community. Some families ask for our help and sometimes children call when they are encountering problems.

The CAS provides services to children under the age of 16 and to their families.

Your phone call to the CAS will bring immediate help to a child at risk of abuse.

When should you call?

  • As soon as you suspect child abuse or neglect
  • Anytime - 7 days a week, 24 hours a day

In Simcoe County, call 1-800-461-4236

What if you are not sure . . .

Sometimes people are not sure about contacting the CAS because they lack evidence or information about the child or family, but have a real concern for a child's well-being. We are here to help. Specially trained social workers are prepared to discuss your suspicions and to take action when necessary. Together, a decision can be made as to whether the CAS should be involved, whether alternative actions can be made or whether other community resources can be offered. If you prefer, your name will be kept confidential.
