Learning to Love to Learn Volunteer Tutoring Support Program
Tutors strive to assist children to:
• Improve reading skills
• Increase comprehension of subject material
• Improve their ability to set and achieve goals
Volunteer tutors provide one-on-one help to children who are experiencing difficulties with reading comprehension and math. Tutors may help with homework and school assignments. Tutors meet with children for one hour each week at a Children's Aid Society office.
Qualifications
• Criminal record check, including a check to work with vulnerable populations
• Three references
• Knowledge of basic school subjects (reading, comprehension, math)
• Ability to work under pressure
• Excellent communication and organization skills
• Flexibility
• Patient, friendly, reliable and non-judgmental attitude
• Attend a mandatory orientation session and two (2) Learning to Love to Learn program training sessions
Schedules
This program operates from October to June each year. Tutors are required to commit to working one to two hours per week for a minimum of one year, to provide stability and continuity for a child.
