The Job
The Legal Counsel is a full time permanent position reporting to the Senior Legal Counsel out of our head office in Barrie, Ontario. Responsibilities include the preparation and presentation of court applications under the Child and Family Services Act, consultation with agency staff on issues arising under the CFSA and participation in the training of agency staff on court related issues. Counsel will be required to travel to Simcoe and Muskoka offices and courts.
Qualifications
We are seeking the following qualifications:
Member in good standing with the Law Society of Upper Canada
In-depth knowledge of the Child and Family Services Act
Child welfare experience and/or extensive family law litigation experience is required
Computer literacy is required
An understanding of Anti-oppression values and principles is important. In particular, knowledge and awareness of the culture and history along with an understanding of the social and political issues facing First Nations, Métis, and Inuit people today would be an asset.
Bilingualism (English/French) is a valued an asset.
Valid driver's license and access to a vehicle is required.
Compensation
The current salary is up to $90,011 commensurate with experience, with a generous benefits package, vacation and leave provisions.
