Family Service Worker

 

The Job

The incumbent will report to the Branch Services Director and will have general caseload responsibilities including: investigating and assessing matters pertaining to children in need of protection, counselling services to clients, services to children in care, recording responsibilities in accordance with the legislation and agency procedures, community outreach and prevention activities, and other duties as assigned by the Branch Services Director.

Qualifications

The position requires an organized, energetic individual with good communication skills, and a sound knowledge of the social service system, preferably as it relates to child welfare.  Preference will be given to candidates with a demonstrated ability to assess and counsel people in risk situations.  Knowledge and awareness of the culture and history along with an understanding of the social and political issues facing First Nations, Métis and Inuit people today would be an asset.  As well bilingualism (English/French) will be a strong asset. Such qualifications would be consistent with someone possessing a Social Work degree or a degree in the Social Sciences from an accredited university, in combination with several years' child welfare experience.

Compensation

The salary is in accordance with Protection Caseworker Level F+ ($51,372 to $71,366).
