FNMI Senior Manager

 

The Job

The First Nations, Métis and Inuit (FNMI) teams provide a bi-cultural approach to services for FNMI children, youth and families in Simcoe County. The Senior Manager Position is a permanent assignment, scheduled to begin as soon as possible. Reporting to the Director of Services, the incumbent will be responsible for providing overall leadership to the First Nations, Métis and Inuit (FNMI) protection and resource teams within the agency.  This will include the development, implementation and evaluation of support and accountability systems for supervisors and staff, coordination of planning and the development and maintenance of community partnerships to promote better outcomes for FNMI children, youth and families.  The Senior Manager ensure the provision of cultural teachings and modeling to enhance cultural competence within the FNMI teams and implement policy and practices for protecting sacred ways. The incumbent will also be responsible for the development of a Youth and Elder Council. For the past 7 years there has been significant planning and enhanced partnerships between the Children's Aid Society and several of the First Nations, Métis and Inuit organizations in Simcoe County.  The Senior Manager will provide guidance and actively participate in the Child Welfare Advisory Circle for Children, Youth and Families (CWAC), ensuring that planning and relationships continue to be strengthened.

 Qualifications                Preference will be given to applicants with:

  •  ·        Highly developed knowledge of, respect of and practice of FNMI culture and traditions, with a commitment to the development and practice of a culturally appropriate best practices service delivery model.   This will include an in-depth knowledge and awareness of the culture and history along with a detailed understanding of the social and political issues facing First Nations, Métis and Inuit people today.
  • ·        Extensive experience in working effectively with First Nations, Métis and Inuit staff, families and community representatives. The ability to speak Ojibway or another FNMI language will be a strong asset.
  • ·        Master's Degree in Social Work, or equivalent education and experience
  • ·        Several years of progressively responsible management experience in a Child Welfare setting
  • ·        Thorough knowledge of all aspects of child welfare service.
  • ·        A thorough understanding and demonstrated skill in anti-oppressive practice
  • ·        Highly developed clinical skills and the ability to provide cultural teachings and role modeling.
  • ·        Highly developed written and verbal communications skills
  • ·        Highly developed financial management skills
  • ·        Highly developed human resource management skills
  • ·        Highly developed problem resolution and mediation skills
  • ·        Demonstrated skills in the development of effective community partnership to provide better outcomes for children, youth and families, in keeping with the principles of Differential Response.
  • ·        Excellent skills related to policy and project development, implementation and evaluation
