Simcoe County CAS Receives High Rating From Youth in Care

BARRIE -- Ontario YouthCAN, a provincial advocacy group made up of youth in the care of Children's Aid Societies, recently released a progress report and Simcoe County CAS came out with top marks. The report rated different CASs on the quality of the service each one provides to the youth in their care.

YouthCAN conducted the survey upon which the report is based, and rated agencies in the following categories:  overall culture, emotional support, educational support, financial support, health and well-being, and involvement in the YouthCAN program.

Simcoe County CAS got the highest score achievable in four categories, and second highest in the remaining two -- the best results of any of the CASs that the Simcoe County agency was ranked against.

"It is a real achievement, and speaks to the dedication and commitment of our staff to provide the best service possible to the people we work with", said Chris Wheeler, Director of Resources for Children and Youth, "we are very pleased with the results".

Other CASs ranked with Simcoe included: Toronto Catholic CAS, CAS of Toronto, Peel CAS, Native Child and Family Services, Jewish Child and Family Services, York CAS and Dufferin CAS.

"Given the fact that this report represents the voices of the youth themselves makes it all the more meaningful for us.  Is their room for improvement?  Always - and we will continue to work closely with our youth to make those improvements wherever we can", said Wheeler.

YouthCAN will be sharing the survey reports with all CASs in order to provide them with ideas of how to deliver appropriate and meaningful services to youth.

The Simcoe County Children's Aid Society works with more than 11,000 children and youth in the county annually, and has over 400 children and youth in their care.
