Local Voices Shout Out For Kids!

Child Abuse Prevention Month Kicks Off at the Kozlov Centre

BARRIE - Local police, firefighters, political candidates, foster parents, youth, and just plain people all have one thing in common at the Kozlov Centre today. It is their concern and commitment to the issue of preventing the abuse or neglect of children.

The Simcoe County Children's Aid Society kicked-off its 2007 Child Abuse Prevention Campaign with a "Shout Out For Kids" event featuring individuals and teams pitted against each other to see who has the loudest voices shouting out for vulnerable children. The message behind the campaign is that abused children do not have a voice and we (the public) must speak for them.  It also highlights the fact that child abuse can sometimes be hard to detect as the signs aren't always immediately apparent, so we must educate ourselves to what to look for. A web-site has been created to help us do just that - useyourvoice.ca

Stephen Michaels of ME Audio and Visual Services is coming with a local audiologist to measure the volume of the voices with a decimeter. A trophy will be awarded to the winner or winners. A cake will be there to help round out the fun to be enjoyed by everyone.

The Simcoe County Children's Aid Society helped over 11,000 children in the county last year who suffered from child maltreatment.  For many of those unfortunate children it was necessary to come into our care. Help us prevent any more children from becoming a needless statistic and support the Simcoe County Children's Aid Society October Child Abuse Prevention Campaign.
