CHILDREN WITH SPECIAL NEEDS (1 day - 4 ½ hours) _____________________________________

Where? Board Rooms B & C at Bell Farm
Who? Staff, Foster Parents and Adoptive Parents who care for children with special needs
Facilitators: Vicki Howard - Family Services Coordinator with Barrie and District Association for People with Special Needs
Why? An interactive workshop that will help people experience the world as children with special needs might experience it. Developmental delay, autism, cerebral palsy, spina bifida, fetal alcohol syndrome and effects are some of the conditions that will be discussed. There will also be a discussion about the difference between a developmental delay and a learning disability.
The workshop will provide strategies for working with families and for Foster families living with children with developmental delays. Vicki will also discuss the impact of a deprived environment on the development of children. It is important to understand how parents who are delayed need to be supported to provide what children need or to build in support for the child to ensure that they get what they need to reach their maximum potential.
