HOW WE OPERATE

We believe that when families need help, that help should support and strengthen the family unit with the least amount of interference and be agreed upon by all parties involved.

We believe children should receive services that are tailored to their needs and that respect differences in culture, religion, background and physical and mental development.

Under the Ontario legislation of the Child and Family Services Act, we, as a Children's Aid Society, are obligated to carry out the services as outlined in the Act. The Children's Aid Society is not a direct government agency, but rather a transfer payment agency. All of the funds used to operate comes from the Ministry of Community and Social Services, and is based on the number of children in care for the previous year of service.

The Board of Directors for the Simcoe County Children's Aid Society is responsible for bringing to the Agency an interpretation of what the community expects for Child Welfare Services in their area. These interpretations are then reflected in the Operating Policies which the Board develops and approves. Members of the Board consist of 9 Municipal appointees and 9 voluntary community members. The County of Simcoe is represented by 5 appointees, while the Cities of Barrie and Orillia are each represented by 2 appointees. The voluntary community members are elected at the Annual General Meeting, and serve terms of office ranging from 2 to 6 years.

The Simcoe County Children's Aid Society values its connections to other organizations relating to the families and children of the community. We work together with other agencies in the County to enrich opportunities for all of our children.
