The Job
The Legal Counsel is a full time position reporting to the Senior Legal Counsel out of our head office in Barrie. Responsibilities include the preparation and presentation of court applications under the Child and Family Services Act; consultation with agency staff on issues arising under the Child and Family Services Act; participation in the training of agency staff on court related issues. Travel to satellite courts within Simcoe County is required.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will be a member in good standing of the Law Society of Upper Canada. An in-depth knowledge of the Child and Family Services Act and child welfare experience and / or extensive family law litigation experience is required.
The Legal Counsel must be able to work independently while also being able to function collaboratively as a member of the legal team and the organization as a whole.
An understanding of Anti-oppression values and principles is important. In particular, knowledge and awareness of the culture and history along with an understanding of the social and political issues facing First Nations, Metis, and Inuit people today would be an asset. As well bilingualism (English/French) will be an asset.
Compensation
Salary is commensurate with experience up to $86,459 with excellent benefits.
