Family Service Worker

The Job

The incumbent will report to the Service Manager and will have family service caseload responsibilities including: investigating and assessing matters pertaining to children in need of protection, counselling services to clients, services to children in care, documentation responsibilities in accordance with the legislation and agency procedures, community outreach and prevention activities, and other duties as assigned by the Service Manager.

Qualifications

Preference will be given to applicants with:

·        A Social Work degree or a degree in the Social Sciences from an accredited University, in combination with several years of child welfare experience.

·        An understanding of anti-oppression values and principles is important.  In particular, knowledge and awareness of the culture and history along with an understanding of the social and political issues facing First Nations, Métis and Inuit people today.

·        Sound knowledge of the social service system, preferably as it relates to child welfare.

·        Demonstrated ability to assess and counsel people in risk situations.

·        Excellent communication skills.

·        Bilingualism (English/French) is also a definite asset.

 Compensation

The salary range is $52,896 to $73,489, commensurate with experience, with a generous benefits package, vacation and leave provisions.
